Keep a face so the same person turns up in every picture and every clip, instead of a new stranger each time.
Describe a person twice and you get two different people. A character fixes that: it is a face you save once — a name, a description, one or more reference pictures of the same person from different angles, and optionally a voice — and then summon by name wherever you generate.
Saving one gives it a token made from its name: save Nova and you get @nova. Put the token in a prompt and the model is handed the saved photo as its reference and told to draw that person — read the next-but-one section before you rely on it, because one model cannot take a photo.
Characters live on the Kit page, under its Characters tab, next to your brands, styles and places. The Kit is not in the main sidebar: open the Image Creator or the Video Studio and press Kit in that tool's side menu. The old address /characters still works and opens the same tab. Kit — Characters, Brands, Styles and Places covers the whole page.
On the Kit page a character is a tile under People. Click it and its editor opens in a side drawer; Add a person makes a new one. For a saved person the drawer can also ask whether this is A real person and, if so, whether They agreed to appear in pictures, clips and on the website. A real person without that tick gets the reminder Ask them first — a real face without a yes should not be used.
To put a character into a picture or a clip there are two ways. One is the Kit drawer under the prompt: press Kit · Everything and tap the person. The other is the Use a saved character button, which sits in both places you would want one:
The list is the same list in both, so a face never looks different depending on which studio you are standing in. From either button you can jump to the Kit to add or edit one.
A character can carry a voice, and since 5 September 2026 it is used. In the Video Studio, attach her with Use a saved character in the reference slots (with From an image picked) and write her line into the prompt, straight after her name in double quotes: @nova says "we ship in an hour". The old "Say this line" box under the Persona slot was removed on 7 September 2026 — the prompt is the only place for the line now. Naming her without attaching her picture stops the studio with "Nova's face is not attached".
One status line then appears under the prompt. It says what will happen to the line, has a ▶ Hear it button to play it in her voice, and shows a length counter.
What happens to that recording depends on the model, and the status line tells you which case you are in:
If you switch to a model that cannot hear the line, the status line says so rather than dropping it quietly, and offers a model that can. There is a length limit on the line; the status line turns red when you are over it. If the character has no saved voice, it says so and offers Give Nova a voice.
Speaking costs credits. The line in the clip and every Hear it preview are both charged as speech, on top of the clip.
Chat is the exception. Read-aloud in the Code Studio and voice conversations in AI Chat still use the single voice set in Settings → Voice, whatever voice is saved on the character — nothing in a chat knows which character is meant to be speaking.
This is the part to read before you plan a series around one face. Pressing Use a saved character attaches the character's saved photo as the reference picture and puts the token in your prompt. The photo goes to the image model together with the words, and the screen says so under the button: "Using Nova", with the note that @nova in your prompt means this face. The same happens with a picture you upload yourself in the reference-image box.
Switching to another character starts a new prompt. If one character is already attached in the Image Creator and you pick a different one, the prompt is cleared down to just the new token, because the old words described the old face. A pop-up says so — "Lisa attached — new prompt started" — and its Undo button brings your old prompt back. Attaching a character to a prompt you are still writing keeps your words and just adds the token.
Which model you pick decides whether that works:
Copying @nova into a prompt by hand does not attach anything — on its own it is just a word, and the studio stops you with "Nova's face is not attached". Always use the button, so the photo travels with it.
Only a character's first picture is ever sent — in the Image Creator and in the Video Studio alike. Extra angles are saved with her but never reach the model, so make the first one a clear, front-on picture of the face.
If the People group on the Kit page shows no tiles, only the line Characters arrive with the next database update., characters are not switched on yet rather than missing from your account. The Use a saved character window says the same in its own words. Until then a face still works the old way: upload the picture as an ordinary reference image in either studio.
