Choosing an AI Model

Which model runs your chat and your code, and where you can change it.

There is a default, and you can override it

VyroAI picks a sensible model for you out of the box. You only need this article if you want something different.

There are several places to change it — the AI Chat message box, the home screen composer, a project's own settings and the creation wizards among them. The ones you meet most often are described below.

For chat

The model picker is a small chip inside the message box at the bottom of the AI Chat page, showing the name of the model in use. The header bar it used to sit in was removed on 8 September 2026. Each option carries a cost multiplier (1×, 2× and so on) rather than a credit price — it tells you how much dearer one model is than another, not what your next message will cost.

On the home screen, before you have gone anywhere

The composer on the home page carries its own small model chip, beside the button that says where your text is going. It is the first model picker most people meet and the easiest one to miss.

The chip follows the destination rather than offering one generic list:

Some tools have no chip at all, and that is deliberate: those decide their model on the server, so offering you a choice there would be a choice that gets thrown away.

For a project

Open the project in Code Studio → Project Settings → AI. What you pick there applies to that project only, and beats your global default.

The same tab has AI Thinking — Model default, Off, Minimal, Low, Medium, High or Max. Higher effort means the model thinks longer before answering: better on tricky logic, slower and dearer on simple work. Not every model supports it.

Dearer models need a purchase first

Until your account has paid for something — a credit pack, a credit subscription or VyroAI+ — you can only use models that cost no more than the default model. Free credits do not count. In the model pickers the dearer models are greyed out with a 🔒 Premium mark, and you cannot select them.

If a dearer model is already set — on a project from before, for example — it is not used. The default model runs instead, at the default model's price. In the Code Studio a notice then says That model needs a purchase; in AI Chat there is no message. One paid credit pack or subscription payment unlocks the dearer models from then on; VyroAI+ unlocks them while it is active.

For everything new

Your default AI instructions live in Profile → Preferences → AI Assistant and apply to new projects.

Cheaper models are genuinely fine for routine work. Save the expensive ones for the jobs where the first answer keeps coming back wrong.
