Attach a text or code file and the AI reads it with your message. Pictures work too; PDF and Word files are not read yet.
Attach a text file to a message and its text is sent to the AI with that message, so you can ask about what is in it. That covers plain text such as .txt, .md, .csv and .log, config files such as .yml, .json and .properties, and code files such as .java, .js and .py.
The limits:
The text counts as part of your message, so a long document makes that message cost more credits, exactly as if you had pasted it in.
Your saved conversation keeps only a line with the file's name, [Document: file name], not the file itself. So the AI has the text for the message you attached it to, but not in later messages. To ask about the same file again further on, attach it again.
The Attach button refuses a PDF with PDFs can't be read as text yet. Dragged into the message box a PDF does get attached, but the AI only receives unreadable text, not what is on the pages. A Word file (.docx) is not attached at all. For either one, copy the text into your message, save it as a .txt file and attach that, or attach screenshots of the pages — the AI can see pictures.
Attached images are sent as well, and the model looks at them. Screenshot an error, a permissions screen or a design and ask about it. See Images inside Chat.
Past 40 000 characters the rest of a file is not read, so for a long file:
Do not attach anything containing passwords, tokens or customer data — it is sent to the AI model like the rest of the conversation. Put secrets in the Secret Vault instead and the chat will warn you before you send them.
