The "Large request" Warning

The one thing in the Code Studio that stops you before an expensive message — and how not to switch it off by accident.

What you will see

Now and then, pressing send in the Code Studio does not send. An amber bar appears above the chat box instead:

> Large request — this message sends a lot of context to the AI, so it'll use more credits than a normal message and may take a little longer. Continue?

Three buttons come with it: Cancel, Continue once, and Continue & don't ask again. Nothing is spent until you choose.

Why it happens

It is not about how much you typed. What goes to the AI is your message plus everything it needs to answer well — the files in play, the conversation so far, your instructions and memory. A one-line question asked in a large project can easily carry more than a long question asked in a small one.

The bar appears once that whole bundle passes roughly 300 credits in size. That is the point at which a mistake stops being cheap: a wrong file open, or a request that should have been two smaller ones.

What to do about it

If the answer really needs all that context, press Continue once — the size is the job, not a bug. If it is a surprise, Cancel and make the request smaller: close files the question does not need, start a fresh chat session for a new subject, or ask for one thing instead of four.

"Don't ask again" is permanent — and here is how to take it back

Continue & don't ask again is not for this session. It is saved to your account as a standing rule, and from then on large requests are sent silently, in every project, with no warning and no confirmation.

It can be undone, but not from where you would expect: the rule does not show up in the Code Studio's Memory & Vault dialog. Go to the AI Chat page instead, open Memory & Vault there, and look under AI Memory for the rule whose text is exactly allow_large_prompts — it appears as that code, not in plain English. Remove it the same way you remove any other rule, and the warning comes back.

"Maximum N messages" and "Message exceeds N characters"

These two red messages are not the Large request bar. They are hard limits, checked before anything reaches the AI, so nothing is charged — and there is no button to continue past them. N is a number set on the server; the message shows it.

This bar is a spend guard, not an error. The Code Studio does not show your credit balance, so it is often the only warning you get before an expensive message — leave it switched on until you know what a normal request costs you.
